It would be impossible to overstate the impact that Tom Hazelmyer has had on heavy music. As the head of Amphetamine Reptile Records, he coined the term "noise rock" and provided a launchpad for artists like Helmet, Unsane, and Today Is The Day - bands who went on to shape underground punk and metal.
I spoke with Tom about launching AmRep from his military barracks, and how he handled the major label bidding wars of the Nineties. We also discussed his feelings about streaming services, and what the purpose of a record label is in the current age.
My thanks again to Tom for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
