From the traditional sludge metal of their early albums, the music of Denver's In The Company Of Serpents has taken on more ambient and neo-Western qualities, drawing comparisons to both drone band Earth and the film scores of Ennio Morricone. Not coincidentally, the band grew from a duo to a full band along the way.
I spoke with guitarist/vocalist Grant Netzorg about the history of the band and the development of their increasingly cinematic style. We also went deep on the writing process and themes behind their latest album, Lux, and the influence of Western esoteric traditions on the band's music.
My thanks to Grant for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
