Earth's influence on metal can't be overstated. From Nadja to Sabazius, any band that takes heavy music to a new (s)low lives in the shadow of Earth's seminal early albums.
I spoke to Dylan Carlson about the creation and intentions behind Earth's ninth album, Full Upon Her Burning Lips, which came out earlier this year. We also discussed the creation of Earth's landmark debut Earth 2, and their 2008 album The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull - the album that led me down the road to the larger world of drone and experimental music, and one of the top hundred albums that I'm grateful to have heard.
My thanks to Dylan for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
