Here is the 75th installment of the Dreams of Consciousness podcast, featuring an interview with Seth Jackson and Kris Gillan of Wellington, New Zealand-based death metal band Scorn of Creation.
Though they draw from a wide spectrum of influences, both classic and modern, Scorn of Creation can best be described as simply "death metal". Though they headlined the third and final night of the Symbiotic Metal Fest (which largely showcased tech and progressive death metal bands), they could have easily been slotted into any night of the fest.
I sat down with guitarist/co-founder Seth Jackson and vocalist Kris Gillan across the road from Valhalla. We spoke about the band's history, the recording of their self-titled debut, and their plans for their upcoming album. We also spent some time speaking about the nature of the Wellington scene, since they were the first band I spoke to that week-end who called Wellington their home.
