Despite hailing from a city known for taking it slow, New Orleans' Brat only do so to make their songs more impactful. They may refer to their music as "bimboviolence" and "barbiecore", but there is nothing plastic or vapid in their mix of death metal, grind, and hardcore.
I spoke with vocalist Liz Selfish and guitarist Brenner Moate about why they coined the term "bimboviolence", and how living in New Orleans is reflected in their music. We also discussed why they decided to record their first full-length Social Grace in batches, and who their ideal touring partners would be.
My thanks again to Liz and Brenner for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
