New York's Hypoxia built themselves up the old fashioned way - through tireless gigging and making connections in the underground; indeed, I first encountered the band a decade ago when they were still an unsigned act opening for DoC friends Grey Skies Fallen. Since then, they've brought ex-Monstrosity vocalist Mike Hrubovcak into their fold and signed with Polish label Selfmadegod Records.
I spoke with Hypoxia drummer/co-founder Carolina Perez about how the band started with a Vader cover, and how Hrubovcak saved their 2015 debut. We also discussed how the band wrote and recorded their latest album Defiance with the members living in different cities, and what the future may hold for them.
