His name may not be familiar to you, but you should recognize the bands that Kevin Rutmanis has played with over the years - among them, The Cows, The Melvins, and Tomahawk. His latest group, Gaswar, is also one of his oldest - the band was formed in the late Nineties by Rutmanis alongside Apollo Liftoff and Jeff Mooridian of the seminal noise rock trio Hammerhead.
I spoke with Kevin Rutmanis about his history in the Minneapolis scene, and where The Cows' unique rhythmic style came from. We also how discussed how jamming with Apollo Liftoff and Jeff Mooridian led to the Gaswar project, and why those recording sessions are finally seeing the light of day as Gaswar's debut, Girl Vanishes On Way To Jive Club.
My thanks again to Kevin for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
