Like the Reese's company, Rank And Vile believe two great tastes taste better together. The Portland band imbues their furious grindcore with the buzzsaw guitar tone and groove that characterized Swedish death metal in the mid-Nineties - a chocolate/peanut butter cup of brevity and gnarliness.
I spoke with vocalist Theo Spence and guitarist Matt Oien about the punk/DIY attitude that shapes the band's ethos, and how they keep their songs digestible. We also discussed how their touring partners influenced the faster direction of their latest album Worship, and why they chose to record the album with Impaled/Exhumed guitarist Leon Del Muerte.
My thanks to Theo and Matt for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
