Like many of their peers in the US black metal scene, Woe started with a single person and a singular musical vision. Over the years, the scope of the project has grown, as has its line-up; but the band's music still begins and ends with founder and multi-instrumentalist Chris Grigg.
I spoke with Chris Grigg about the philosophical underpinnings of black metal, and his approach to music production. We also discussed the narrative arc that's threaded through the latest Woe album Legacies of Frailty, as well as the new streaming service, Ampwall, that Chris recently launched.
My thanks to Chris for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
