If any recording artist can be forgiven for resting on his laurels, it's Scott "Wino" Weinrich; between his pioneering work with The Obsessed and the albums he recorded with Saint Vitus, he's an unimpeachable member of the doom metal pantheon. But the man has remained prolific over the last four decades; and while the names of his projects may change, there's no mistaking his soulful croon and iconic guitar tone for anyone else.
I spoke with Wino about what it was like to stick with slow music when everyone else went speeding in the opposite direction, and the impact of Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath on his music. We also discussed The Obsessed's upcoming fifth album Gilded Sorrow, and the recently released film Wino: The Documentary.
My thanks again to Wino for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
