The underground metal scene in Denmark is often overshadowed by its Northern neighbors, but that may soon change. Copenhagen's Phrenelith have been making waves with their cavernous style of death metal, joining bands like Taphos and Hyperdontia in raising their scene's profile.
I spoke with Phrenelith guitarist/vocalist Simon Daniel Larsen about the classic death metal bands that influenced Phrenelith's style, and why a song is never finished for him. We also discussed the long process of finding the right sound for their latest album, Chimaera, and Timo Ketola's cover artwork (which ended up being one of the last album covers he created before he passed away).
My thanks to Simon for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening.
