Formed by veterans of the Bay Area scene, Thought Leaders play post-punk that doesn't simply ape Joy Division or The Wire. Rather than the usual proto-New Wave rehashing, their sound is shaped by their metal, post-hardcore, and noise rock backgrounds (which includes The Mass, Lower Forty-Eight, Dora Flood, Winchester Revival, and Wrack).
I spoke with guitarist Andy Lund and bassist Tyler Cox about what brought the members of Thought Leaders together, and the unique way their songs are arranged. We also discussed the band's first full-length, In Wastelands, and the ways the band adapted their writing and recording process during the pandemic.
My thanks to Andy and Tyler for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening.
