Listen on Stitcher Radio (Android/IOS) Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Heretical Sect are part of a new generation of bands emerging from the American Southwest. Self-described as "High Desert Black Death Doom", the subtle classical influence and avant sensibility in their songwriting elevates them above the usual old school revivalism.
Heretical Sect drummer/vocalist Warg and bassist Crypt Hammer spoke with me about the classical influences that creep into their songs, and their use of unorthodox time signatures. We also discussed how the history and landscape of New Mexico inspired the songs on their first full-length album Rapturous Flesh Consumed.
My thanks to Warg and Crypt Hammer for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening.
