Based in the Northern Swedish town of Umeå, Grid's modern take on grindcore stands in sharp contrast to the straight-edge bands that their city is known for. Like Nasum before them, the trio isn't afraid of letting their songs branch out into crust punk and black metal.
I spoke with Grid drummer Fredrik Larsson and vocalist/guitarist Andreas Backström about how they formed the band to annoy the "gatekeepers" of the Umeå hardcore scene, and the love/hate reactions to their first full-length, Livsleda. We also talked about their experience of touring Southeast Asia in 2017.
