Since forming as Contempt, Portland's Drouth has always included elements of doom and crusty hardcore in their blasting style. Unlike the atmospheric and indie-inflected black metal that the Pacific Northwest has become known for, the band rarely lets its songs stray too far into "blackgaze" territory.

I spoke with Drouth's drummer Patrick Fiorentino about the band's history, their latest album Excerpts From a Dread Liturgy, and their recent line-up changes. We also discussed the video created for "An Apiarist" with Papacy's Brendan McGowan.

My thanks to Patrick for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
