Here is the 57th instalment of the Dreams of Consciousness podcast, featuring an interview with Rasyid Juraimi of Singaporean stoner rockers Marijannah.
I caught up with Rasyid when Marijannah played Rumah Api, on the same night that I interviewed Australian psychedelic metal band Potion (with whom Marijannah were touring). Though I've seen him play a number of times, and have actually interviewed his Wormrot bandmate Arif twice, this interview was the first time I've spoken with Rasyid.
We talked about Marijannah's origins, the difference between writing for stoner rock and grindcore, as well as the setbacks the band faced in getting their debut album Til Marijannah released.
Though the focus of the interview was on Marijannah, I couldn't help but ask about Wormrot's show at this year's Maryland Deathfest - thus concluding a triptych started back in January on the Wormrot podcast and continued in April on the Code Error episode. It turns out this story had a happy, drunken, trashcan-throwing ending.
My thanks again to Rasyid for talking to me, and to you for listening.
