Ophiolatry formed in the Nineties (alongside Krisiun, Rebaelliun and Mental Horror) as part of a new generation of Brazil death metal bands. Like their countrymen, their music is an unrelenting barrage of blastbeats and death/thrash riffs - everything that makes Brazilian death metal great. The band went on hiatus after their second album, but re-emerged in 2021 with a new line-up.
I spoke with guitarist Fred Barros and vocalist Jaime Veron about how they became a part of the revived Ophiolatry, and how an anaconda helped the band find their name. We also discussed the band's desire to evolve with every release, and working with Dan Swano on the mastering of their latest album Serpent's Verdict.
My thanks again to Jaime and Fred for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
