Cemetery Skyline brings together members of Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity, Insomnium, Entombed AD, and Sentenced. But instead of the melodic death metal that their main bands are known for, the pan-dinavian project allows its members to indulge in their love of Eighties goth rock.
I spoke with keyboardist Santeri Kallio about how he adapted his classical piano background to the psychedelic/progressive sound of Amorphis, and what he believes the role of keyboards are in heavy music. We also discussed the genesis of Cemetery Skyline, and why the members didn't gather together in person until after they recorded their debut album Nordic Gothic.
