Denver's Oryx play sludge/doom with a hefty dose of atmosphere (or "ambience", if you will). Due to the manner in which they layer guitar lines and synths, the band's sprawling songs contain elements that may not be apparent to the listener on the first listen, and which makes them sound bigger than most trios.
Thomas Davis (vocals, guitars, synth), Abigail Davis (drums), and new member Joshua Kauffman (bass) caught me up on what they've been doing since the last time they were on the podcast, and how the recent line-up change affected their songwriting. We also discussed why the band considers their latest release Primordial Sky a sister album to its predecessor, Lamenting A Dead World, and why their studio recordings are meant to mimic the experience of seeing them live.
My thanks again to Tommy, Abbey, and Josh for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
