Portland's Witch Vomit issued their first releases amidst an avalanche of old school death metal revivalism. Though their sound is still very much rooted in the late Eighties and early Nineties, it has expanded to include more black metal influences, with an added emphasis on guitar harmonies.
Drummer Vincent Van Dell (aka "Filth") spoke to me about forming Witch Vomit as a duo with vocalist/guitarist Tony "Tempter" Thomas, as well as where he draws inspiration for his drumming style. We also discussed why the band wrote fewer "riff trains" for their new album Funeral Sanctum, and why longtime producer Evan "Mouse" Mersky is a big part of the band's sound.
My thanks again to Vincent for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
