Ruin Lust's pitiless onslaught transcends genre. The New York band's atonal sound coalesces around the grimmest elements of underground music - a welcome resistance to the progressive and melodic tide sweeping over the US death and black metal scenes.
I spoke with guitarists Sam Bennett and Jack Wilson about how Ruin Lust is a repudiation of the scene politics they experienced in their previous band, and why genre distinctions are artificial. We also discussed why they wrote songs for their latest album Dissimulant without concerns for how they'd be performed live, and why they haven't had a full-time bassist.
My thanks again to Sam and Jack for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
