Add Tomb Mold to the long list of Canadian bands helping to push death metal to a previously unimaginable level of musicality. The Toronto band manage to explore their their progressive sesibilites within an impressively oppressive sound - described by the band's members as "playing sixteen strings all at once".
I spoke with guitarist/bassist Derrick Vella about what led him from power violence to death metal, and why he isn't affected by outside opinions of Tomb Mold's music. We also discussed how his doom metal project Dream Unending influenced Tomb Mold's latest album The Enduring Spirit, and why the album was released with little advance notice.
My thanks again to Derrick for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
