The British band Sermon have taken on the tricky task of making music that's progressive, heavy, and accessible all at once. It's an approach that could fall equally flat with casual fans of heavy music as well as elite metal snobs; luckily, Sermon has the songs to back it up.
I spoke with Sermon's founder and main songwriter - the multi-instrumentalist referred to only as Him - about what led to the creation of Sermon, and why he chose to do the project under a pseudonym and from behind a mask. We also discussed the long road to the release of the second Sermon album Of Golden Verse, and how the music industry is like a pyramid scheme.
My thanks again to Him for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
