Minnesota's Nothingness meld elements of death, black and doom metal - a sound they refer to as "cauldronous". As vocalist Clay Olson explains it, "Nothingness is a blank canvas upon which anything or everything could be painted."
I spoke with Clay and guitarist Alex Walstad about how they came up with their cauldronous sound, and the overarching theme of "nothingness" that defines their music. We also discussed why their increased experience is reflected on their latest album Supraliminal, and why they'll only ever work with producer Adam Tucker from now on.
My thanks to Clay and Al for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening.
