Beginning as guitarist/vocalist Colin Tarvin's solo project, Mortuous quickly expanded to a full lineup that now includes members of fellow Bay Area acts Exhumed and Necrot. The band's sound has likewise grown from classic death metal to include doomy passages with piano and violin accompaniment.
I spoke with drummer Chad Gailey about how he became a part of Mortuous, and his long friendship with Colin Tarvin. We also discussed why the material on their latest album Upon Desolation was so challenging for him, and whether or not the new songs are "technical".
My thanks to Chad for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening.
