Sharing members with Mortuous, Necrot, and Vastum, Acephalix has been a key part of the surging Bay area death metal scene. The band has evolved from their crusty beginnings to embrace the style that emerged from Sweden, Finland, and the UK over 30 years ago.
I spoke with vocalist Daniel Butler about how the latest Acephalix lineup came together, and the through line connecting all their releases. We also discussed the theological and philosophical underpinnings of their latest album, Theothanatology, and the distinction between the death of God and godlessness.
My thanks to Daniel for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening.
