"Psychedelia is the way we see the world with the eyes of a child." So says Italian psychedelic sludge trio Ufomammut. The group were early adopters of the slow atmospheric metal sound; and as they enter their third decade as a band, they've outlasted and outworked most of their peers in the genre.
I spoke with Ufomammut co-founders Poia (guitars) and Urlo (vocals/bass/synths) about why there are no rules to their mix of sludge and psychedelia, and the reason their previous albums are "like a cannonball". We also discussed the rebirth alluded to on their latest album Fenice, and why they prefer to record their albums live.
My thanks to Poia and Urlo for speaking with me, and to all of you for listening.
