Mixtape 77 - Jason Göbel (Part One)

Here is the 77th installment of the Dreams of Consciousness podcast, featuring the first part of an interview with Jason Göbel of Cynic, Portal, and Gordian Knot.

Thanks to my friend Alex (of In Dark Purity zine infamy), I was made aware to the fact that Jason Göbel, guitarist of Cynic (along with the Cynic-spin off projects Portal and Gordian Knot) was travelling through South East Asia. I've been a Cynic fan since I was a teenager, and jumped at the chance of having Jason on the podcast. Alex put us in touch, and we met up during his stay in Kuala Lumpur.

We did a deep dive into Jason's musical background, how he joined Cynic, and why they were so different from the rest of the Florida death metal scene. We also discussed the mixed reaction Cynic's bold style elicited from both record labels and death metal fans alike.

My thanks to Jason for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
