Mixtape 44 - Überyou

Here is the 44th installment of the Dreams of Consciousness podcast, featuring an interview with Zurich punks Überyou.

The band played Rumah Api on a Tuesday night. We did the interview downstairs from the venue while they waited for their drummer to arrive from the airport. It was a fairly tense situation - he had missed a previous flight, and the band were concerned that he might not arrive in time for the gig.

Luck was on their side however - the gig started after 9pm and had no less than five opening bands. Originally, I found this deeply, deeply irritating (having come straight from the office, and needing to get up early the next day). But the logistics ended up working in the band's favour, as the last opening band was still playing when their drummer arrived. The timing couldn't have worked out better for them.

During the interview, we spoke about their love of touring, and their experiences playing Cuba and Myanmar (two countries not many foreign bands get to play at all). We also discussed DIY culture and their feelings about the scene in their home of Zurich. It was a good talk, aided immeasurably by the fact that we all had a lot of time to kill.

My thanks to the guys from Überyou for talking to me, and to you for listening.
