Here is the 46th installment of the Dreams of Consciousness podcast, featuring an interview with Oslo trio MoE.
Despite not coming from a traditional "metal" or "hardcore" background, MoE make tremendously heavy music - the kind that Swans or Zeni Geva would be proud to call their own. Interestingly, the band (comprised of bassist/vocalist Guro Skumsnes Moe, guitarist Håvard Skaset, and drummer Joakim Heibø Johansen) are all trained musicians with music school degrees.
I caught up with MoE before their set at Rumah Api, where they shared the stage with some of Malaysia's more notable doom and stoner rock bands. We discussed the band's origins and musical background, their writing process, and the role of improvisation in their songwriting and live performances. It was a good conversation - the first time I got to interview three music school alumni. I hope my questions rose to the occasion.
My thanks to MoE for talking to me, and to you for listening.
