The British duo Noisepicker play a mix of sludge, noise rock, and the blues - or, as the band describes their sound, "Tom Waits meets Black Sabbath". Though the band has ties to the UK's venerable doom metal scene, their songs rarely fit comfortably in one category or another.
I spoke with guitarist/vocalist Harry Armstrong and drummer Kieran Murphy about the benefits of being a two-piece, as well as how their lyrics follow a blues tradition of storytelling. We also discussed why the band decided to record their latest album The Earth Will Swallow The Sun themselves, and why humans might actually be stupid enough to blow up the sun.
My thanks again to Harry and Kieran for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
